You know it’s summer time when you have trouble sleeping at night because of the heat and your stomach starts churning from trying out new seasonal frappes. Well, besides bringing the heat and cold drinks, summer has hit the beauty world too! Just about every cosmetics brand has launched some new beautiful summer lines that have me pouring over beauty stands and covering my arm with swatches of blue, peachy and golden hues – yes, I’m talking about Lancome’s exclusive summer edition eyeshadows, which I’m debating whether it will satisfy my Mediterranean nostalgia.
But besides the colorful additions to your makeup bag, one of the first products that I switch up come summertime is my base. Because really, everything looks great when you’ve got the perfect healthy summer complexion. My trick is to aim for lighter coverage products that will even out the tone and protect the skin from getting sunburnt or dehydrated. I generally apply sunscreen on my face all throughout the year and extra summer sun goodness only calls for extra careful sun care. Lately, I’ve been into the Innisfree Eco Safety Perfect Sunblock SPF 50+ PA+++. I like the fact that it’s a long lasting product but still light enough for my combination skin. It’s a moisturizing one that immediately absorbs into the skin without leaving any traces of whiteness. Instead of foundation, I’ve discovered a new product from Tonymoly called the Goat Milk Pure CC SPF 30 PA++. I use this in the shade 01 Pure Milk and it’s a perfect match for my skin’s pink undertone. You can’t really expect much coverage from any CC creams but it will brightens up the skin and give it a healthy dewy finish. You could also opt for shade 02, which has a beige hue and slightly more coverage.
There’s nothing more unflattering than heavy cakey concealer on a sweaty summer’s day so I’ve let go of my Nars Creamy Concealer for a moment and instead, alternating between the Urban Decay Naked Concealer 01 and Artdeco Perfect Teint Concealer pen in 03. Both are very pale and light in texture so I like to apply them under the eyes and pretend I’m not actually panda-eyed. However, I do find that eye cream is a must, especially for the Naked Concealer, as it can sometimes take some time to blend the formula onto the skin. To set the base, I’ve added an oldie but a goodie to my collection – Ameli Baked Powder in 07 Green Mellow. This is a classic Korean cult product, famous for being lightweight and looking seamlessly beautiful on the skin. I used to be completely obsessed with the pink and purple hues in my teens, but this green powder is perfect for evening out the patches of redness on my tired and heated skin.
For a touch of healthy complexion, I use the Lancome Belle de Teint shade 03 to frame my cheekbones and sometimes lightly across my eyelids Lisa Eldridge-style. Finally, I mix the shades Luminous Flush and Incandescent Electra in my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette to achieve a subtle peachy pink glow across the cheeks. And voilà! I’m heat/ sweat-proof for the day.
So there’s my everyday summer complexion routine! Hope it gave you some ideas to lighten up your base makeup. What are some products that you love to bring out in the summer?
